Enzo Fernandez was booed mercilessly by Fulham supporters when he came on in the second half of Chelsea’s 3-2 win at Craven Cottage.

The Argentinian clearly had not been forgiven for his role in eliminating England from the World Cup in the summer.

It was his goal that levelled the semi-final between the sides in Atalanta, though he was also largely seen as encapsulating Argentina’s poor conduct in the North America, culminating in his red card in the final against Spain.

It was always likely he would be received poorly by opposition fans during the opening weeks of the season, but nevertheless the hostility that greeted his every touch after coming on in the 65th minute was ferocious.

The 25-year-old had been jeered by his own supporters when coming on at Stamford Bridge in Chelsea’s pre-season win over Real Sociedad a week earlier.

It is still possible he could depart the club this summer with Manchester City known to be interested, though changing the shade of blue he wears is unlikely to help fans around England to forget his contributions in the summer.
