London, United Kingdom – Chelsea began their new Premier League season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage in the first round.
Chelsea took the lead just 31 seconds after the opening whistle, through Brazilian striker Joao Pedro, before Josh King leveled the score for Fulham in the 23rd minute with a low shot.

Chelsea regained their lead before the end of the first half, after new signing Morgan Rodgers added the second goal in the 41st minute, taking advantage of a cross from Lacroix.

Cole Palmer extended the London team’s lead with the third goal in the 49th minute, after a pass from Joao Pedro, placing the ball low into the home team’s net.

Fulham did not give up, and Gonzalo Garcia managed to reduce the deficit in the 55th minute, after following up on a rebound from the Chelsea goalkeeper and heading it into the goal.
Fulham almost equalized in the 71st minute when Josh King broke through on the left and beat several defenders before firing a shot that went just wide of the post.
Chelsea held on to their lead during the remaining minutes, securing their first 3 points in the league, in the first official victory for Spanish coach Xabi Alonso with the team.
