West Brom head to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night as they look to continue their perfect start to the 2026/27 season.
West Brom make the long trip up to face Newcastle United after they began their new campaign with a 2-2 draw against Liverpool. The Magpies have faced significant changes in the summer but a high energy display under new boss Matthias Jaissle marked an encouraging start to a fresh chapter on Tyneside.
The Magpies will be expected to shuffle the pack against WBA but having won the Carabao Cup in the 2024/25 season and made it to the semi finals last year, they may well have their eyes on another deep run in the competition.

The Baggies come into the tie in high confidence though. They booked the tie with Newcastle United after a routine 4-1 win away at Rotherham United in the first round and have followed it up with six points from two games in the Championship.
James Morrison’s WBA defeated Burnley on Sunday, putting in an impressive performance to emerge 3-1 victors. An early Callum Styles own goal put the visitors ahead but West Brom responded impressively as Harry Whitwell equalised before an Isaac Price brace saw out the win.

“It will be intriguing to see how Newcastle United attack the Carabao Cup this year. They haven’t been eliminated at this stage since 2021 and have made it to at least the quarter finals in every year after.
“Matthias Jaissle will likely take the chance to shuffle his side though, so youngsters and those on the fringes of the first XI may be played. That gives a West Brom side in confident mood the chance to really take the game to the hosts at St. James’ Park.
