Dominic Calvert-Lewin will have England involvement in the back of his mind as he kickstarts his second campaign at Leeds United.
Leeds are off to a winning start in the Premier League, and return to action tonight against the same opponents in the EFL Cup.
It’s an opportunity for some of United’s squad players to show their worth, while starters might want to keep up their momentum from an encouraging pre-season.

In particular, the home Euro’s in two years’ time could be the pinnacle of some Leeds players’ careers, who will hope to represent England.
Included in that is Dominic Calvert-Lewin. His form last season from the winter onwards earned him a return to the Three Lions setup in March, only to miss out on the World Cup squad.
However, with a pre-season behind him, Calvert-Lewin should fancy his chances of remaining in Thomas Tuchel’s thinking.
Beyond that, injury problems for any full-backs could open the door for Jayden Bogle and even James Justin. Of course, James Trafford is eyeing the No1 spot over Jordan Pickford and his debut was encouraging to say the least.

The problem for Calvert-Lewin in the summer was the pecking order. Harry Kane is the nailed-on starter, while Ollie Watkins is clearly second choice behind him, and was then put behind Ivan Toney in the pecking order too.
Although, the (current) Aston Villa man might be making moves to hamper his England ambitions going forward.
Absent from Villa’s 4-0 decimation by Brighton, Watkins allegedly refused to play. He’s pursuing a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal for a fee in excess of £45million.
While Toney’s presence in the World Cup squad suggests playing in that part of the world doesn’t totally rule out England involvement. That said, Watkins ending his time in the Premier League at the age of 30 casts a strong spotlight on Calvert-Lewin.
Other English strikers include: Danny Welbeck (Chelsea), Liam Delap (Nottingham Forest bound), Dominic Solanke (Spurs), and Tammy Abraham (Aston Villa).
Of those, Calvert-Lewin has to fancy his chances of impressing Tuchel with his Leeds form.
