Nico Gonzalez’s potential transfer from Manchester City to Newcastle United is not finalised yet, according to journalist Lee Ryder.
Gonzalez began his football journey at Barcelona, but in 2023 he signed for FC Porto before Manchester City snapped him up in 2025 on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
Last term, the 24-year-old made 25 Premier League appearances, but only started 17 matches for Manchester City.

Newcastle United have seen the departure of Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur, and have been looking into the transfer market to add an experienced midfielder.
The Magpies have brought in Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur to bolster the engine room, but the club are in advanced talks to sign Manchester City for the signature of Gonzalez.
It was believed that the deal between the clubs for the transfer of Gonzalez was virtually done, but it appears there is still some work to do.
At the moment, the deal is on the right track, and the Magpies have the necessary plans in place to get the transfer over the line.

It is believed that Gonzalez’s transfer to Newcastle United will be approximately £50m, which will represent a substantial outlay for the Magpies.
If he stayed at Manchester City, Gonzalez would likely see his game time reduced even further, as new manager Enzo Maresca is chasing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Newcastle United will want to get the deal over the line as quickly as possible, but it is unclear whether the club will be able to get it done before their clash against West Brom in the EFL Cup this Wednesday.
The Magpies started the new Premier League season with a 2-2 draw with Liverpool, with Steur and Bamba both featuring in the game as the Reds had to rely on a last gasp penalty to grab a point.
Manager Matthias Jaissle also wants to make further additions to his team before the transfer window closes, and Newcastle United are trying to sign winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille.
