Ipswich vs Leicester Carabao Cup
Carabao Cup action returns, and Last Word on Football is here to bring you the latest team news and predicted lineups ahead of Ipswich vs Leicester. The Foxes advanced in the competition earlier this month, courtesy of a 1-0 win over Northampton Town.
Since then, it’s not been smooth sailing, though, as the two league games have highlighted the problems that persist. Meanwhile, this week’s opposition, Ipswich Town, had quite a different weekend. They began their Premier League campaign with a win over Sunderland; they’ll be looking to build on that momentum with a victory in the cup.

Leicester City Team News
At the weekend, there was more disappointment for Leicester. Many thought they hit rock bottom last season, but the scariest part about Saturday’s defeat is the reminder that everything can still get worse. The first half an hour could be seen as one of the worst displays over the past two years, which is a hard feat within itself. More mistakes at the back, limited threat going forward, two goals conceded, and to top it all off, a red card for Oliver Skipp.
A dismal afternoon, one which couldn’t be rectified by a better second half. That frustration looms around the King Power, a feeling that’s felt all too familiar over the past 12 months.
Aside from the game, the team selection was also quite interesting. Louis Page was back on the bench, despite still attracting interest from Manchester United. However, Stephy Mavdidi and Wout Faes remain out, as they seem set to depart. In terms of injuries, the game came too quickly for Jayden Joseph, who is still recovering from a tackle sustained against Notts County. Fellow academy graduate Bade Aluko replaced him. Conor Chaplin also wasn’t ready to make the squad, but it was close as Russell Martin decided on matchday. He will surely be looking to be ready for a return to Portman Road, the place where he spent four full seasons.

Meanwhile, for Ipswich, their current state is quite the contrast to Leicester’s. Both sides came up from the Championship in 2024, and down again in 2025, both times Leicester finishing ahead. However, last season’s Championship campaign saw the Tractor Boys rebuild perfectly, and ultimately capture promotion back to the top flight. In their first game, they got the better of Sunderland, with Jack Clarke scoring late on to secure all three points.

With a big game away at Old Trafford on Sunday, it will be interesting to see how manager Gary O’Neil sets his side up. Will there be plenty of changes, or is he looking to get more minutes in the tank for those key players? Ahead of the game against the Black Cats, O’Neil confirmed everyone should be available, with only Azor Matusiwa and Jack Taylor as exceptions.
Much like Leicester, they also have some familiar faces. Abdul Fatawu could face City for the first time since his summer move. There is also Kasey McAteer, who came through the Leicester academy and made the move to the Tractor Boys this time last year.
