A football fixture from the Premier League gods as Tyneside as Merseyside honoured one of its greatest sons. It was a who’s who around the St James’ Park press box before kick-off as those who played with or under Keegan arrived for the occasion.
For the first time, every part of the ground featured in the Wor Flags display. The travelling fans were given Keegan’s name in red, with the Leazes End showcasing his iconic No.7.
A graphic of Keegan on the East Stand greeted the players as they walked onto the turf. The Gallowgate read: "I want people to dream about their football club," the banner read. "They should. We should all be dreamers at heart. Some people are the opposite and say, 'We can't do that'. But when you ask them why, they can't give a reason.
