Matthias Jaissle has promised to use Newcastle United’s youngsters “as much as possible” ahead of the Carabao Cup campaign.
One criticism that some Toon fans had towards Eddie Howe was his lack of faith in the youth setup. In truth, the former Newcastle manager bedded in the likes of Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley, with Leo Shahar and Sean Neave also making their debuts last season.
Jaissle relied heavily on the prospects during the pre-season campaign. Mason Miley and Henry Johnson were arguably the pick of the bunch and could be set for minutes against West Bromwich Albion.

Matthias Jaissle backs Newcastle United youth
Jaissle has vowed to give Newcastle’s academy the chance to prove their worth. He said: “As much as possible, I want to see the young lads (and) their talents. You get a good feeling how they’re developing and if they’re getting close to the Premier League.
“But also it depends on what happens in the transfer market. It’s always a bit of a balance, training with us but also they need to get game time to develop. We need to be smart in the decision making at the end of the transfer window.”

‘A big competition’ - Matthias Jaissle
Toon fans would love another cup run and Jaissle recognises the importance of the competition. He added: “First of all, it’s a big competition. Due to the history of the club, we are aware of it and I am looking forward to playing the round.
“Important now, that we get things sorted (after Liverpool). We analyse the game and see the mobility of the players. There were many players who were exhausted. Some of them have minor injuries so we need to see who is available.”
