Newcastle United have reached an agreement to sign Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City.
Newcastle United have agreed a £50million deal to sign Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has been given permission to travel to Tyneside this evening and undergo his medical over the next 24 hours after saying goodbye to his Man City teammates.
The Magpies have targeted an experienced midfielder following the high-profile departures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes. In Gonzalez, sporting director Ross Wilson has landed a top target, and one that will excite supporters.

The 24-year-old will become the club’s seventh summer signing after Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba, Lukas Hornicek and Amar Dedic and take their total spend to around £219mullion.
In what has been a transitional summer for Newcastle with the departures of Anthony Gordon, Tonali and Guimaraes, and the recruitment of a young squad, Gonzalez represents the most significant arrival to date.
Gonzalez had been keen to stay at Man City, having only joined from Porto for £50million 18 months ago. Both Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders have left the Etihad this summer, giving him hope of securing a regular starting spot. However, against AFC Bournemouth on Sunday, Gonzalez was an unused substitute as he watched Marc Guehi - a recognised centre-back - play alongside Elliot Anderson in midfield.

The former Spain under-21s international came through the academy at Barcelona and went on to make 37 first-team appearances before joining Porto in 2023. He spent the season before he moved to Portugal on loan at Valencia.
At Porto, Gonzalez featured 68 times before Man City came calling in January 2025, however he has struggled to nail down a regular spot in the starting XI.
