Man United offered chance to sign 29 yo Premier League star, he could rival Benjami Sesko

Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has been offered to Manchester United through intermediaries, according to talkSPORT.

United could sign a striker before the transfer deadline if Joshua Zirkzee leaves the club, with the Dutchman attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League and abroad.

Mateta could leave Palace this summer, with United a potential destination, given their previous interest in the France international.

The 29-year-old was linked with the Red Devils last summer and in January, but they did not make a formal approach for him.

Man United would face competition from Aston Villa if they receive their interest in Mateta. The west Midlands side have made a formal approach for the former Mainz 05 forward.

Mateta has one year left on his contract, meaning this could be Palace’s final opportunity to recoup a significant fee for the striker after paying £8 million to sign him permanently from Mainz in 2022.

The France-born striker has been a pivotal player for the Eagles, chipping in with 62 goals and 14 assists in 203 appearances.

He helped Palace win their first major title in 2024/25 after beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final. He also scored the only goal in their UEFA Conference League final victory over Rayo Vallecano last season.

Mateta could be a useful addition to United, providing cover for Benjamin Sesko or competing with the Slovenian for a starting spot.

The Mancunian giants’ defeat at Hull City last Saturday highlighted their need for greater quality in attack, and Mateta could provide just that.

The Palace ace is proven in the Premier League. His physical strength, strong hold-up play and movement in the box could improve the efficiency of Man United’s attack.

United should consider signing Mateta if he is available for a reasonable fee.
