Town are reported to be close to an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Argentina international Exequiel Palacios.
The Blues have previously made three offers for the 27-year-old over the past few weeks and now, according to _[The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7526551/2026/08/25/exequiel-palacios-ipswich-leverkusen-transfer-news/)_, it looks like their fourth will be successful.
Town’s latest bid is reported to be and initial €22.5 million (£19.2 million) plus a further €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons. Palacios is understood to have agreed a four-year deal.
Palacios is set to become the most eye-catching addition of an already very busy summer at Portman Road, with the outlay having hit the £150 million mark even prior to this deal, and probably the highest profile signing in the club’s history.
The midfielder, who began his career with River Plate in his home country, won the World Cup in 2022 and was in the squad which lost this year’s final last month. In total, he has won 41 full caps.
He is contracted to Leverkusen, with whom he won the Bundesliga in 2023/24, until the summer of 2030.
