[Newcastle United](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/08/25/newcastle-united-reach-agreement-david-ornstein-transfer-news/) will be busy in the final week of the summer transfer window. At least that is what the fans are hoping for. Nico Gonzalez is on the verge of a move to St James’ Park. But it looks like the Magpies have signed a midfielder even before the Spaniard from Manchester City.
Newcastle United’s focus all summer has seemed to be on signing youngsters. And it looks like they have quietly gotten another such deal over the line.
The club have already brought in 18-year-old Sean Steur from Ajax and 20-year-old Aladaji Bamba from AS Monaco. They are going to be part of the first-team picture. On the other hand, another one of their midfield signings won’t be.
For the past week or so, there has been talk about Newcastle United completing a deal to sign Ousmane Diabate from Turkish side Genclerbirligi.
Yet, the fans have awaited an official announcement, which has not come. Despite that, it looks like a move is already done, as confirmed by the Turkish club’s manager himself.
According to [Ajansspor](https://ajansspor.com/haber/metin-diyadinden-ousmane-diabete-sozleri-bizim-takimlar-nasil-goremedi-733322), Genclerbirligi manager Metin Diyadin said regarding Diabate and his move to Newcastle United:
> “I came here during the mid-season last year. He was playing in the youth team. We brought him into the team, and because he came from Africa, there was a contract process involved. We couldn’t develop him during that process.”
>
> “Volkan Hoca came after me. If I’m not mistaken, he played in a cup match and 1-2 league matches for Galatasaray. He has very high potential. We finalized his sale to Newcastle United. He is currently playing for us on loan.
>
> “He’s a very mature player for his age. He has good game vision and technical ability. I think he will reach different levels as he plays more. I’m really curious how our teams didn’t see this in him. We transferred him to England.”
So, Newcastle United have completed the signing of Diabate. But he has gone back to Genclerbirligi, where he is set to spend the season on loan and continue his development.
That makes sense. There is very little chance that Diabate would get consistent playing time at Newcastle United right now. Both Steur and Bamba are more experienced than him in European football.
On top of that, Gonzalez is set to arrive in a £52 million deal from Manchester City. He is expected to be a starter for the Magpies from day one.
It remains to be seen when the official announcement comes for that move as well. But everything is believed to have been agreed upon between all parties. So, it is just a matter of time at this point.
Coming back to Bamba, he is a player who clearly has a ton of potential. And his manager seems to believe that he will reach new levels in the future.
So, this could prove to be an excellent long-term signing for Newcastle United. Also, the transfer fee is believed to be only €3.5 million. As a result, there is not much risk involved either.
