The winners of the above ties will all go into the velvet bag for the third round draw along with the nine clubs that qualified for European competition as they enter the Carabao Cup for the first time this season. That means Sunderland will join Champions League qualifiers Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool, Europa Conference League qualifiers Brighton and Hove Albion and fellow Europa League competitors Bournemouth in the draw.
Is the Carabao Cup third round draw regionalised?
No, this is the first stage of the competition when the North and South divide is removed. However, Sunderland are involved in a unique split of the draw. The Black Cats and the other clubs that have qualified for Europe will go into a pre-draw to decide if their ties will be home or away. That will take place on Sky Sports prior to Preston North End’s home tie with Everton and the full draw will take place after that tie has come to a conclusion.
