Sunderland agree personal terms for Leeds United target Igor Paixao – Fabrizio Romano

Leeds United need a left-wing signing before the window shuts, and Igor Paixao is one of the names that will remain in discussion until next Tuesday.

United’s season has got off to a flier with back-to-back wins against Nottingham Forest. But, despite those two wins, it’s obvious that work must be done in the remaining days of the window.

In particular, competition in the final third for Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks quite important.

Leeds United target Igor Paixao agrees personal terms with Sunderland after recent offer

When looking at the left-wing market this summer, there are many names that are being linked with Elland Road. None are more prominently linked than Brazilian Marseille star Igor Paixao.

Leeds wanted the winger last summer, but he opted for Champions League football at OM. Now, he could be on the move late this window as Marseille aim to trim their wage bill, having lost several key players already.

On Wednesday morning, images from Marseille’s training ground appeared to have Paixao absent from the main group. Then, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reported that Sunderland had entered the race to sign Paixao from Marseille. Not only are they interested in signing the 26-year-old, but also made a formal bid earlier this week.

Fabrizio Romano relayed this interest. He reports that Sunderland have also agreed personal terms with the Brazilian this week too. The two clubs remain in talks as the Black Cats aim to reach an agreement on club level.

Leeds United would be making huge mistake missing out on Igor Paixao

It entirely depends on the size of Sunderland’s approach here, but I would be very frustrated if we watch Paixao pass us by again.

Sunderland have European football to offer, so are obviously a more inviting project at the moment.

However, we’ve been flirting with Paixao for 13 months. If Marseille’s finances are in that much disarray that they needed to sell, you just pay the money and get the player.

Sunderland may have swooped in for another target and this would be an impressive signing on their part.

For Leeds? I’m reserving my scepticism on our late business because there are plenty of left-wingers out there that we could sign.
