Will Osula is absent from Newcastle United’s matchday squad for the Carabao Cup second-round tie at home to West Bromwich Albion.
The Danish striker is the only change from the 20-man squad that was named for the Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday. Sean Neave has been drafted in, taking a place on the bench.
Osula started the 2-2 draw against the Reds, setting up Anthony Elanga’s fifth-minute opener, before sustaining a foot problem in a collision with goalkeeper Alisson. He played on initially, but succumbed to the pain early in the second half.
There is currently no indication of how long Osula will be sidelined for.
Providing an update after Liverpool game, Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle said: “With Will, we need to see. Hopefully not that serious, and he can be back as soon as possible as well. For now it looks quite good, but we need to see and check him.”
Newcastle United starting XI v West Bromwich Albion
£66million club-record Nick Woltemade comes in for Osula in the starting XI, returning to the striker role after a period of playing in midfield under previous boss Eddie Howe.
Jaissle has made six changes in total, handing debuts to goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana Toure, while Jacob Murphy, Jacob Ramsey & Joe Willock also come into the team.
Amar Dedic, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman and Lewis Hall stay as the back four, and Sean Steur keeps his place in midfield.
