Nico Gonzalez has become the latest player to depart the Etihad this summer, leaving for Newcastle in a deal worth up to £52million.

The midfielder only arrived at City 18 months ago when he joined from Porto when City paid £50m to secure his signature.

The 24-year-old has made 59 appearances for the Blues and at one stage last season was a key player in the middle of the park having overcome a summer fraught with speculation over his future.

But the Spaniard fell out of favour under Pep Guardiola in the second half of the campaign and was then overlooked for Mateo Kovacic in the Community Shield before Marc Guehi started ahead of him in midfield against Palace.

Gonzalez joins Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Tijjani Reijnders as senior midfield exits this summer while City have signed Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi and remain keen on Enzo Fernandez.

Gonzalez had spoken of his desire to stay earlier in the summer and work with Enzo Maresca but has now moved to St James' Park.
