Mbappé hat trick gives Mourinho winning Bernabeu return

Jose Mourinho celebrated his Bernabeu return in style as Kylian Mbappé 's hat trick inspired Real Madrid to a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad.

Mbappe bagged a treble to take his Real goals tally to 89 in 105 appearances and secure a second LaLiga win in a row for Mourinho.

Vinícius Júnior was also on target after Sociedad had reached the break at 1-1 with Luka Sucic cancelling out Mbappe's opener.

After Saturday's opening league win at Espanyol, Mourinho was back in charge at the Bernabeu - 13 years after his first spell at Real had ended.

There was a party mood before kick-off as huge cheers greeted Mourinho's name when it was announced and Real full-back Marc Cucurella walked out with a guard of honour to show off the World Cup trophy won by Spain.

Cucurella was joined by Mikel Oyarzabal, who also played his part in Spain's summer success, and the Sociedad striker came close to opening the scoring as Thibaut Courtois blocked with his leg.

Real attempted to build momentum with Arda Güler and Jude Bellingham trying to pull attacking strings against a compact Sociedad defence.

Vinicius brought a sharp save from Álex Remiro and the Sociedad goalkeeper also held on to Mbappe's effort at his near post.

Pressure was beginning to grow and Real broke the deadlock five minutes before the interval.

Federico Valverde advanced to pick out Mbappe with a clever pass and the France forward's first touch gave him the yard he needed to superbly rifle home left-footed.

Mbappe tested Remiro again within two minutes but Sociedad would go to the break level.

Real were caught out by Sergio Gomez's ball from the back and Job Ochieng's shot deflected into the path of Sucic, who gave Courtois no chance with an emphatic finish.

Remiro made excellent stops from Mbappe and Guler as Real upped the intensity after the restart.

Mourinho was out of his dugout apparently upset that Sociedad fouls were not worthy of yellow cards, but his irritation was soothed by Mbappe restoring Real's lead on the hour.

Cucurella and Valverde combined down the left and Sociedad were split open by Mbappe working a one-two with Bellingham and sliding the ball past Remiro.

Bellingham claimed another assist eight minutes later with his tenacity proving critical.

The England midfielder burst into the shot and had a shot blocked, but he won back possession from Luken Beitia to provide Vinicius with the simples of tap-ins.

Mbappe completed his hat-trick 10 minutes from time with a chipped finish from Vinicius' brilliant through ball before VAR denied Brahim Díaz a fifth in stoppage time.
