AFC Bournemouth will travel to the John Jenkins Stadium tonight to begin their defence of the National League Cup.

They beat their opponents, Moneyfields FC, in this competition last season, 2-0 at home.

The Cherries won the cup for the first time back in March, defeating Plymouth Argyle 1-0 thanks to a goal from a direct Kenni Thompson corner.

They'll have their eyes set on the trophy once again.

Bournemouth and Moneyfields are familiar opponents, the sides finishing second and third in the Division One South West in 2023/24, and first and second in 2024/25, before Helen Bleazard's side were promoted to the Southern Premier Division.

This fixture is part of the group stage of the National League Cup.

Bournemouth Sports and Southampton PGA are the other two sides in Group E, with the top side qualifying for the knockouts, and second and third heading into the WNL Plate.

Bournemouth have had a strong start to the Southern Premier season as they aim for a second promotion in three years.

A 1-0 win away at AFC Wimbledon and a 2-1 win at home over Cheltenham Town see them sit behind only Oxford United and Fulham, who both have a superior goal difference.

Meanwhile, Moneys have also had a perfect start in their league, Division One South West, the tier below Bournemouth.

A 4-0 victory away at Maidenhead United was followed by a 5-1 thrashing of Abingdon United.

They sit top of the table with a goal difference of eight.

Jack Randall's side has been a real ensemble.

Despite nine goals across two matches, the joint-top scorers are Olivia Venditto, Megan Fox, and Kaylee Buckingham - all with two.

Randall took over as manager ahead of this season.

The departing Karl Watson helped to establish the women's team back in 2017, though the side appears not to have struggled with the transition.

AFC Bournemouth travel to Moneyfields on Thursday, August 27, kick off at 8pm.
