Manchester United are gearing up for their first home game of the 2026-27 season, with Ipswich Town set to visit Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils could hardly have imagined a worse start, suffering a bruising 2-0 defeat to Hull City last weekend.

Every result at Old Trafford comes under the microscope, and another below-par display against Ipswich could pile even more pressure on head coach Michael Carrick and his players.

Carrick is expected to make a few changes to his starting XI.

All eyes will be on Marcus Rashford, who made his long-awaited return against the Tigers after spending 18 months away on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona.

The 45-year-old introduced Rashford at half-time, with Patrick Dorgu making way after a disappointing first-half display.

The 28-year-old created the joint-most chances (4) but managed just two touches inside the opposition box.

Rashford had a golden opportunity to get on the scoresheet but failed to make the chance count.

He now faces competition from Matheus Cunha and Dorgu for a starting berth on the left wing.

Cunha is an influential figure and rarely fades into the background when his team needs him most.

When the pressure rises, the Brazilian tends to answer the call and lead from the front.

That is why Carrick should unleash Cunha on the left wing against Ipswich.

That does not necessarily mean Rashford should be left on the bench.

If Amad Diallo remains sidelined m, Carrick could keep Bryan Mbeumo on the right and unleash Rashford through the middle.

The Englishman is not a natural centre-forward but he certainly has the skillset to cause problems in that role.

A front three of Cunha, Mbeumo and Rashford could provide United with a devastating attacking combination, particularly with Benjamin Sesko still working his way back to full match sharpness.
