Newcastle United have now officially announced the arrival of Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City. He has already been presented to the fans in front of a packed St James’ Park. Now, it is time to look forward.
There are a number of other positions where Newcastle United should look to strengthen before this summer transfer window comes to an end. But with little time left, they will need to move swiftly.
The forward areas is one which still need reinforcements. Nick Woltemade drew another blank against Championship side West Bromwich Albion in League Cup competition last night.
Yoane Wissa has looked decent in recent times. But the Magpies could do with another option in there. And there is a positive update in that respect.
Newcastle United handed Matias Fernandez-Pardo transfer boost
Matias Fernandez-Pardo is someone Newcastle United have been linked with in recent weeks. The Belgian forward, who plays both as a number 9 and on the wings, is still at Lille even though he has been widely expected to leave for a while.
Reports broke out in France recently that the Magpies had chosen to walk away from a move after failing to meet Lille’s asking price. But now, it looks like that might be wide of the mark.
According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have not given up hope of signing Fernandez-Pardo. They have not walked away from the deal yet.
Also, even though Fernandez-Pardo wanted Champions League football, there has been encouragement in recent days of the Belgian international being open to a Newcastle United move.
That being said, Newcastle United will look to ensure that they do not sanction any move that could lead them to get into trouble with Premier League and UEFA’s spending rules in the future.
Will Fernandez-Pardo end up joining Newcastle?
It remains to be seen if Newcastle United can get a deal for Fernandez-Pardo done or not. So far, Lille have stuck to their transfer valuation for the player.
The transfer window is very close to its end though. So, that could end up softening their stance, if the player is absolutely intent on leaving this summer.
Amid all this, Newcastle United have already been linked with an alternative target as well in the form of Moroccan international Bilal El Khannouss, who is currently at VfB Stuttgart. Interestingly, he is not a forward or a winger, but a traditional number 10.
