Thierno Barry has enjoyed a blistering start to the new campaign after hitting a hat-trick in Everton’s 4-0 Carabao Cup win at Preston North End.
As described in What Everton Learned From Preston North End Win, the Frenchman has hit four goals in his opening two competitive appearances of the season.
Turning Hill Dickinson boos into motivation
The 23-year-old opened up on how a psychological reset helped him overturn some past frustrations from Evertonians at the Hill Dickinson.
Barry recalled hearing jeers during a fixture against Chelsea last term, noting: ‘It was really difficult for me at that moment because my parents were in the stands, and now everything has changed. I have also changed my mindset, and I show more good things on the pitch.’
Language, team chemistry and a summer reset
Barry credited his turnaround to summer work with analysts and learning English to improve chemistry with teammates like Vitalii Mykolenko and Iliman Ndiaye.
‘I work with the analysts and my coach. I also have a better relationship with my teammates too, and I hope I can continue like this,’ he said.
Moyes demands even more ruthlessness ahead of Bournemouth
Moyes acknowledged the striker’s progress while challenging Barry to become even more clinical in front of goal.
‘Generally he’s been much better since he came back,’ Moyes said, though he added he wants his forward to take every chance.
