Stoke City are reported to have inquired about making Chiedozie Ogbene a third player to be signed from Ipswich Town this summer.

Stoke have already brought in George Hirst and Ben Johnson and the Ipswich Star claims they are now among a number of Championship clubs on alert about the availability of Ogbene, aged 29. He has also been linked with Derby County.

Ogbene's chances of game time look limited at Portman Road under Gary O'Neil this season and he was left out of the match day squad for an opening day win over Sunderland last weekend. He was an unused sub in the Carabao Cup in mid-week.

The wide man has a reputation for his speed and work rate and Stoke are believed to be keen on adding another option in that department, regardless of speculation around the future of Sorba Thomas.

Ogbene spent last season on loan at Sheffield United as part of his recovery from a serious Achilles injury although he wasn't helped by a quick change of manager - and, having played for Ipswich at the start of term, wasn't permitted to join a third club in the same season.

He had joined Ipswich for £8m in 2024 after Ipswich's promotion to the Premier League, where he had played regularly for Luton Town. He had previously played alongside Viktor Johansson at Rotherham as they won promotion from League One. He has two years remaining on his contract.
