Liverpool loanee could be in line for his first league start this weekend
Kieran Morrison says Sheffield Wednesday fans have only seen a ‘glimpse’ of what he can do so far.
The 19-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Liverpool, was handed his first start against Wolves in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night and impressed. The left-footer played on the right wing and caught the eye with his dribbling, quick feet and directness.
The wideman was pleased with his performance despite the 2-0 defeat and is keen to show the supporters what he is all about again on Saturday when they host Bromley.
“I'm glad that I gave the fans a bit of something to be happy about and made some look forward to seeing me in the next few weeks,” he explained. “I want to show them what I can do so that's just a little glimpse of it. They're going to see more hopefully very soon. Hopefully, if the manager picks me to start and Saturday, I can play the full 90 and I can give them the team my best effort.
“I think that's my third or fourth senior appearance so it's not like I've got a lot of experience, but that's what I need this season, to get a lot of minutes in my legs in the senior game and get as many goals and assists and help the team win as much games as possible.
“I need to work on my output to be fair, but what I love is getting the ball and driving at people. So hopefully, I can do more of that as the season goes on.”
Morrison, who won his first senior cap for Northern Ireland earlier this year, has already made his first-team debut for Liverpool and was involved in some of their pre-season campaign, scoring in a win against Sunderland. The next natural step in his career was to go out on loan and he was in no doubt that Wednesday was the right club for him. Owls sporting director, Simon Wilson, said it was one of the ‘quickest calls’ when it came to trying to persuade him to join.
“When Henrik was interested in me, I didn't have any second thoughts,” he added. “He sold me his idea of the game. I just want to get in the team. I want to do what's best for me, my team, and the fans, and hopefully get promoted by the end of the season.”
