Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro are still building up match fitness after making their first appearances of the season in midweek in the EFL Cup, while Mohammed Kudus and James Maddison are among the injury concerns – and there will be speculation as to whether expensive new signings Sávio and Omar Marmoush might make their Premier League debuts for Spurs.

Will Van de Ven or Porro start for Spurs?

The good news ahead of Saturday's match is that both Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro played their first minutes of the season during the 5-1 EFL Cup win over Charlton Athletic in midweek – and the pair could return to the starting line-up this weekend.
Van de Ven, the new club captain who signed a long-term contract extension earlier this month, returned after suffering an unspecified muscular injury during pre-season, while Porro had been given an extended period of rest following his run to the World Cup final with Spain. Both are believed to be fully fit and ready to play.
Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie also made their first starts of the new campaign against Charlton and could be in line to retain their places in the line-up this weekend, although neither completed the full 90 minutes.
The bad news, however, is that there are lingering injury doubts over winger Mohammed Kudus, who hasn’t played since January due to a lingering quadriceps issue, and James Maddison, who is working through a minor shoulder problem.
De Zerbi had stopped short of ruling either player out so far at the time of writing, but both are major doubts for the game against Newcastle. A place on the bench is likely the best both can hope for – but they are more likely to be involved next week against Nottingham Forest.
Another likely absentee is midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, with De Zerbi explaining that the 23-year-old has suffered a hamstring injury – although the injury also coincides with speculation about his future at the club, with several sides linked with a transfer bid for the Senegal international.
Will Marmoush play against Newcastle?

Spurs splashed the cash once again this week, signing winger Sávio for a reported £75m and striker Marmoush on an initial loan with a £60m obligation to buy next summer. The former Manchester City pair will both hope to feature against Newcastle.
Sávio came off the bench to make his debut against Charlton, scoring one and creating another, and is in line for his first Spurs start with the club short-staffed on the wings. Marmoush enjoyed a full pre-season and should be match fit, but may have to make his debut from the bench.
As well as Kudus, Spurs also have several other wide players unavailable due to long-term injuries, including Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert, both of whom suffered ruptured ACLs last season. Odobert is targeting a December return, with Simons expected to be absent until early spring.
Another knee injury victim, Dejan Kulusevski, is slowly easing his way back towards full fitness having not played since May 2025. The Swede is back in training but is unlikely to be involved for at least another couple of weeks.
