A round-up of the latest Sunderland-related transfer news and speculation...
Sunderland’s efforts to sign Marseille winger Igor Paixao remain ongoing, according to reports on the continent, with suggestions that the Black Cats are still yet to meet their French counterparts’ valuation of the player.
Regis Le Bris’ men are on the hunt for reinforcements in wide areas heading into the final days of the transfer window, and earlier this week, Paixao emerged as one potential option in that regard. As things stand, however, Sunderland are yet to reach an agreement with Marseille, and with that in mind, L’Equipe have provided an update on the Brazilian’s situation.
According to the French outlet, Marseille chiefs are open to sanctioning further departures between now and the end of the window, with Paixao among those in line for a prospective exit. But as yet, Sunderland have not submitted a high enough offer to tempt the Ligue 1 outfit into a sale, with ESPN suggesting that Marseille could be seeking a fee in the region of £32.6 million.
Meanwhile, the club continue to canvas the market for other potential suitors in an attempt to secure a more advantageous financial package. It is understood that a handful of clubs from England and the Middle East are interested in Paixao, although Sunderland remain in pole position for his signature at the time of writing.
Elsewhere, Alan Nixon has claimed that Preston North End are set to make a fresh bid to sign Sunderland midfielder Alan Browne.
The Irishman joined the Black Cats from the Championship side two summers ago, but finds himself on the periphery of Le Bris’ plans at the Stadium of Light. As such, Preston could look to enact something of a homecoming for the 31-year-old, but much could depend on whether or not they have the finances required to make a deal happen.

And finally, Sunderland have been touted as admirers of FC Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei. According to Africa Soccer, the Black Cats are monitoring the Ghanaian centre-back, who currently represents head coach Le Bris’ former employers. The 24-year-old joined the French club on a permanent deal from Swedish club Hammarby in July 2024.
