Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for the challenge of Newcastle United at home in the Premier League on Sunday.
After the disaster at Brentford, the Lilywhites responded with a 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup second round in midweek. New signing Savio made his debut from the bench, and it turned out to be a memorable one. The Brazilian, signed in an eye-watering £85million package from Manchester City, scored a fine goal before assisting Ben Davies’ deflected effort past the Charlton goalkeeper.
On Thursday, Savio welcomed his former Man City teammate Omar Marmoush in N17. The Egyptian international moved to Spurs from Man City on Thursday, joining initially on loan with a £60million obligation to buy at the end of the season. He was an unused substitute last weekend, as Man City came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1.
Roberto De Zerbi makes exciting admission on new signing Omar Marmoush
Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Omar Marmoush is in contention to make his Tottenham debut this weekend against Newcastle United. The Spurs boss has no concerns about the forward’s fitness and described him as a “perfect player”.
When asked if Marmoush can have an immediate impact on his team, De Zerbi said in his press conference (h/t Football London):
“Yes, I think he works well. He’s a very smart player. He understands football like a coach. I hope he’s like a coach and maybe not less and not more. But he understands football. He feels football. He can cover different positions on the pitch. Anyway, we need all his qualities because we do not have qualities like him in our squad. He was the perfect player.”

De Zerbi will, though, have to weigh up whether to start Marmoush in place of Richarlison and Dominic Solanke, or name him on the bench. The 27-year-old can operate in multiple positions across the front line, but De Zerbi will want him to be closer to the box due to his clinical ability in front of goal. After finding opportunities at a premium at the Etihad Stadium, the Cairo-born star has a point to prove here.
He is facing his favourite opponent in the Premier League, having netted seven goals in all competitions as a City player against Newcastle. So, Marmoush will be raring to haunt the Toon Army again on Saturday.
