Kai Andrews has left Coventry City on loan.
COVENTRY City midfielder Kai Andrews has signed for League One side Oxford United on loan until January.
The 20-year-old links up with the Kassam Stadium club after Oxford received special dispensation from the English Football League (EFL) to complete the deal.
With Oxford currently under a transfer embargo, the U’s can only sign players with EFL approval and which does not involve any additional cost to the club.
Andrews spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership and previously enjoyed a loan spell at Motherwell.
The Wales international scored one goal in 11 appearances for Hibs and also played 10 times for the Sky Blues last term.
He will play under former Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey at Oxford.
Andrews said: “I had a great chat with the manager and the opportunity for young players coming through, or coming on loan, it was impossible for me to look away from this move, and I put my all in to make it happen.
“I feel very confident from my experiences in Scotland and I’ve had a strong pre-season with Coventry, so I’m ready to hit the ground running for the club.
“The principles of the club and the way we want to play is a set-up I’m excited to get into. It’s a very exciting team to come into where I feel I can have a positive influence going forward.
“I want to get as much experience and play as many games as I can. I know the culture of the club and how great the supporters are. We want to get back to the Championship, and I will give my all to achieve that.”
Oxford suffered relegation from the Championship last season and have taken four points from their first two matches back in League One.
The EFL placed a temporary transfer embargo on Oxford after the club failed to comply with the EFL’s salary cost management protocol (SCMP) regulations.
U’s head coach, Ramsey added: “We’re extremely excited to bring a player of Kai’s quality.
“My coaching staff and I have known Kai for a number of years as he impressed with the Wales youth teams, and more recently, in the senior set-up.
“Still a young player, he comes with plenty of experience to hit the ground running. He is a dynamic and versatile midfielder who will undoubtably strengthen and add to the already existing quality that we have.
“We can’t wait to work with him and welcome him into the team.”
