**Nottingham Forest are set to test Everton’s resolve on Harrison Armstrong.**
Armstrong started back-to-back games for David Moyes’ side in their Premier League win over Crystal Palace and against Preston in the Carabao Cup.
The homegrown midfielder spent last season on loan at Deepdale but was recalled in the January transfer window due to the Blues’ squad shortage.
However Armstrong could be set to leave Hill Dickinson Stadium permanently after Forest launched an ambitious bid ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Oliver Glasner’s side are preparing to mount a £40 million offer for the West Derby-born teenager that would curb his first-team pathway on Merseyside.
Armstrong’s preferred position of central midfield is already well-stocked with no fewer than five established options also vying for the two line-up positions.
Summer signings Christian Norgaard and Hayden Hackney have joined James Garner, Merlin Rohl and Tim Iroegbunam in the engine room options.
Iroegbunam was in line for a move to Premier League newcomers Hull City before a hamstring injury during pre-season scuppered the £15M deal.
