Goals from Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga were enough to seal the three points for Matthias Jaissle’s side.
Not too long ago, there was nothing but negativity around this Newcastle United team. But it would be safe to say that their start to the campaign has changed a lot of people’s minds.
A 2-2 draw against Liverpool has been followed up by this away win over Tottenham Hotspur. And suddenly, it feels like the Magpies are starting to take flight under their new manager.
On the other hand, Spurs might have been one of the most heaviest-spending teams in world football this summer. But they have endured a horror start. This is their second loss in a row in league competition to start off the campaign.
Newcastle United’s summer signings might not have filled the fans with confidence. But some of them are starting to show exactly why they were brought in.
One of them appears to be Amar Dedic. Jaissle knew exactly what he would get from the full-back, having worked together in the past. And now, the Newcastle United fans are starting to see it as well.
Dedic was the driving force behind Newcastle United’s win against West Bromwich Albion in midweek, thanks to his two assists. And he was instrumental once again tonight, assisting Elanga’s opener against Tottenham Hotspur and keeping a clean sheet as well.

Not even the most optimistic of Newcastle United fans would have expected this start from the Magpies. Of course, Spurs have had their own problems for a long time.
But that should not take away from the fact that Newcastle United were brilliant. Those players deserve all the credit in the world for their performance.
To be honest, they had looked lost all pre-season. Perhaps that is why those results should always be taken with a grain of salt. Now that the campaign has started, the Magpies are doing great.
Jaissle deserves all the credit in the world for getting a tune out of a squad that is nowhere near the best. Hopefully, they will continue on this path.
