A SOLD-out fundraising evening at a Hexham restaurant has raised £7,000 for Daft As A Brush Cancer Patient Care.
The event was held at Saathi on Wednesday (August 26), courtesy of owner Titu Ahad, and was organised by John Rourke for the second year running.
Guests enjoyed an Indian banquet followed by live music from Shaun Fenwick, a raffle featuring 44 prizes donated by local businesses and individuals, and a live auction of Newcastle United memorabilia.
Among the sought-after lots were a signed Dan Burn Newcastle United shirt, a signed and framed picture of the defender at the Carabao Cup final, a Herdy hamper and a bespoke teddy bear commissioned with a Daft As A Brush neckerchief.
Wylam Garage dealer principal Sean Conley donated the signed shirt, while Armstrong Watson contributed the Herdy hamper and a bottle of Norfolk whisky.
Mr Rourke organised the night after experiencing the charity's support first-hand. Following prostate cancer treatment at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital, he was transported to and from radiotherapy appointments by Daft As A Brush on 20 occasions.
The volunteer-led charity provides free transport and support for cancer patients travelling to hospital appointments across the North East and Cumbria.
Andrea Glover, chief executive of Daft As A Brush, attended alongside members of the charity's team. Mr Rourke thanked Saathi, its guests and the businesses and individuals whose prizes and donations helped make the evening a success.
