Leeds United have three days to address three positions in the transfer window, mainly in attack.
Daniel Farke will no doubt be delighted with how we’ve started this season. Successive wins against Nottingham Forest alongside ambitious early spending in the window has fans feeling optimistic.
A familiar feeling has crept in though, that the window is going to pass by with a very underwhelming climax.
Today is a great day, returning to Elland Road after months away. But, as much as I’m feeling like a kid at Christmas, there’s the off-field transfer concern that you just can’t shake currently.
Leeds United’s official ‘attacking investment’ stance backfiring with deadline day looming
After United landed James Trafford for a club-record £40million, everyone was in agreement that the attack was our next focus.
So, a backup centre-back and goalkeeper being our only business since is alarming. There’s been *some* effort to fix that with loan approaches for Chelsea’s Myhailo Mudryk, but nothing else of real substance.
That is worrying. It’s especially so when you look back at what The Athletic reported off the back of Leeds surviving in early June.
“Leeds want to add difference makers in the final third,” Beren Cross wrote. “The positions those reinforcements will eventually play in will be affected by a lot of variables at play in any transfer window, but the intent is there to recruit and spend on quality at the sharp end of the pitch.
“The bulk of this summer’s investment is currently expected to go into that part of the pitch. However, that does not mean other areas will be ignored entirely.”
So far, Leeds’ investment in the final third has been signing Harry Wilson on a free transfer.
Jean-Matteo Bahoya to Hull City outlines Leeds United frustration
The two attacking positions of note for Leeds are left-wing and up front.
We’ve known that pretty much ever since we signed Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin – two brilliant starters, but players with historic injury and fitness concerns.
The former of the two has looked the more likely to be strengthened on, with the transfer market throwing up left-wing options here, there and everywhere.
A new (expected) mover is someone I’ve already pointed out that would be an ideal option for Leeds: Eintracht Frankfurt’s Jean-Matteo Bahoya.
The French youngster was previously quoted at €70million in 2025. Now, Hull City have agreed a deal to sign the 21-year-old, who is reportedly now rated at €25million (£21.4million).

That begs the question: why aren’t Leeds getting involved here?
He’d certainly fit the bill of us signing competition for Okafor, and looks to be within our budget. Not only that, he’s likely to willing to move to the Premier League.
Given how little of the window is left, this stance in June that the bulk of our spending would be in the attack, that’s backfiring currently.
Of course, you have to reserve full judgement until the window shuts. But, this is a familiar development after last summer. Time is wearing thin and we still have ideally three signings to make.
