Aston Villa have reportedly made a shock bid for a Manchester United star, while Newcastle United could miss out on yet another target.
With so much transfer talk doing the rounds, we’re here again through the summer to sift through the bullsh*t and highlight the whispers that might have some substance.
Each day we’re ranking the top 20 rumours involving Premier League clubs, the higher the link, the more likely we feel they are to become done deals.
So we start with the tittle-tattle…
20) Matias Fernandez-Pardo – Porto to Liverpool The forward is on Newcastle United’s radar, but he is another player who could be lured elsewhere as Liverpool have made contact with him as a possible new signing, potentially as an alternative to a couple of Premier League wingers. Alternatively, Arsenal are said to be a ‘serious option’ for the forward.
19) Amad Diallo – Manchester United to Aston Villa Here’s the random link of the day… Aston Villa could do with more attackers and an obscure outlet reckons they have bid for Diallo, though the player and Man Utd are unlikely to be on board.
18) Joel Ordonez – Club Brugge to Crystal Palace
Palace barged Villa out of the way, but reports suggest the defender is struggling to pass a medical due to a toe issue. Just lop it off, lad.
17) Pape Matar Sarr – Tottenham Hotspur to Nottingham Forest With Spurs spending so much money on new midfielders, there were always going to be some exits to balance the books and Sarr could be one casualty. Forest are interested and his current club are reportedly willing to part ways.
16) Nick Woltemade – Newcastle to Napoli We’ve never made a secret of our fondness for Big Nick, but the Germany forward couldn’t seem to find his place in Eddie Howe’s XI and the prospect looks even more remote under Matthias Jaissle. But a loan without a hefty obligation doesn’t do much for Newcastle.
15) Ismaila Sarr – Crystal Palace to Liverpool
Having been blown out by Brighton, the Reds have turned to Palace – and being rejected by them too. Apparently they offered £50million for Sarr, with the Eagles well aware they bid higher for Minteh. Palace want it known their preference is to keep the forward, but Liverpool are reportedly preparing a second bid.
14) Julian Alvarez – Atletico Madrid to Arsenal
Arsenal have continued to loiter around Alvarez despite the striker been quite clear he only wants to join Barcelona. But Atletico have made their view clear too: “There is a zero-per-cent chance of selling him to Barcelona – it’s not about money, it’s about dignity.” Which leaves Arsenal as Alvarez’s only escape route, but does he want to return to the Premier League? This one is definitely one of the most interesting to watch as the deadline looms.
13) Cody Gakpo – Liverpool to Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool’s progress with Bradley Barcola could be good news for Spurs, with the Reds now considerably more motivated to sell Gakpo. City are also sniffing but Tottenham remain favourites to land the forward, even if Liverpool would be right to base their valuation of Gakpo on the fee Spurs paid for Savio. The Reds do want a replacement before selling, though.
12) Iliman Ndiaye – Everton to Manchester City Everton reportedly want around £80million for the winger – not unreasonable given some of the other prices elsewhere this summer – but sending Jack Grealish the other way would presumably help grease the wheels for City. We’d be interested to know if David Moyes is as open to selling Ndiaye as Everton’s owners appear to be. Tottenham are there too, apparently.
11) Daniel Munoz – Crystal Palace to Nottingham Forest
Everton were heavily linked with the defender, who seemed to say his goodbyes to Palace fans in pre-season. But Forest have nipped in with a bid worth £20million plus another £2million in add-ons, and he reportedly wants the move.
10) Enzo Fernandez – Chelsea to Manchester City
This one seems to be coming to the boil – it has to given the deadline is closing in. City are keen; Fernandez fancies it; and Chelsea are willing to sell for the right price. Which is said to be around £120million. Apparently, there have been no club-to-club talks yet with City perhaps playing it cool in the hope of securing a discount given Fernandez’s desire to move. It could go to the wire, but we reckon this gets done.
9) Lamine Camara – Monaco to Chelsea
It was reported that Liverpool and Chelsea were offered the chance to sign the midfielder because Monaco need to shift one of their non-EU players so they can sign Erik Lira from Cruz Azul. The Blues appear to have taken the opportunity to line up Camara as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, and there is even talk of an agreement for this deal.
8) Gabriel Martinelli – Arsenal to Al Hilal
Martinelli didn’t fancy Turkey as he wanted to remain in one of Europe’s top five leagues, but he’s now open to Saudi, apparently. What could possibly have convinced him? Regardless, the two clubs are said to have reached a verbal agreement over a £55million deal and it is now down to personal terms, which don’t tend to be a problem for Saudi clubs.
7) Harvey Elliott – Liverpool to Valencia
The Reds outcast has agreed personal terms with Valencia, now it’s on the clubs to reach a deal. Just let the lad go and play, FFS.
6) Marc Guiu – Chelsea to RB Leipzig This one came out of nowhere, almost like the good old days if it wasn’t for Fabrizio Romano being the one to reveal it out of nowhere. It’ll be a permanent exit from Chelsea for the former Barcelona striker, who was never able to open his Premier League scoring account.
5) Ibrahim Mbaye – PSG to Aston Villa
Mbaye has been heavily linked with Liverpool, but in came Villa from nowhere to agree a £47million deal for the 18-year-old. A perfect way to get over missing out on Rafael Leao.
4) Bradley Barcola – PSG to Liverpool
Finally, we have progress. Ornstein says Liverpool and PSG have agreed a package worth around £120million, of which over £100million is guaranteed. There are details to discuss but this should move quickly now.
3) Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa to Al Hilal Watkins appears to have got his way with Al Hilal, at the fifth time of asking, succeeding with a £50million offer plus some token add-ons. Watkins will now head to Saudi to go through the formalities and sign a three-year deal.
2) Emiliano Martinez – Aston Villa to Chelsea
Chelsea, not being daft, have seized their opportunity to land the Argentina goalkeeper for £7.5million – an absolute snip. Martinez is in London on Friday to complete the move.
1) Allan – Palmeiras to Manchester City
City want to replace one Brazilian winger with another, with a deal agreed for the 22-year-old worth £34million including add-ons. Allan landed in Manchester on Friday after saying his goodbyes to Palmeiras.
