Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has turned down another big-money contract offer to move to the Saudi Pro League this summer, according to the Sunday Mirror (page 67).
The Portugal international was the subject of interest from Saudi giants Al-Hilal last summer. He was handed a mega-money contract, with a package of almost £100 million for United.
The Red Devils’ hierarchy did not put in an effort to convince Fernandes to stay, but the 31-year-old personally made the decision to continue with United for the 2025/26 season.
Fernandes ended up contributing nine goals and a staggering 21 assists in the Premier League as the Red Devils finished an impressive third in the table under manager Michael Carrick.
Sunday Mirror now reveal that Fernandes was contacted by Saudi Pro League officials during the World Cup, and he was offered £640,000 per week tax-free for a period of four years.
Despite the astronomical £133m package, the United captain decided to snub the interest once more.
United likely to open Fernandes contract talks soon
The Portuguese, who was signed for an initial £47 million from Sporting CP in January 2020, has been United’s standout player for the past six years. It is unsurprising that the Saudi Pro League are trying to recruit him, with Cristiano Ronaldo coming to the end of his career.
Fernandes would be the next superstar for the cash-rich league, but the playmaker appears determined to create history with United rather than pursue a huge payday at the current stage of his career.
The former Sporting CP man is presently on a weekly package of £300,000. His current United contract expires in June 2027, but United have the option to extend his stay for another 12 months.
Hence, there is enough time to sort out contract terms, but fresh leaks about another Saudi offer suggest the player and his entourage are prepared to discuss a new deal as soon as possible.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is the highest earner in the division at £525,000 per week, followed by Virgil van Dijk at £350,000 weekly. In our view, Fernandes’ final big contract could be around £400,000 per week with performance bonuses, given his immense contribution to the Red Devils.
