Coventry City's Frank 'The Tank' Onyeka arrives at Hull
Coventry City's Frank 'The Tank' Onyeka missed the Hull game with a hip injury
Frank Lampard provided an injury and fitness update on a number of his Coventry City players following the weekend’s defeat at home to Hull.
The Sky Blues boss was without experienced midfielder Frank Onyeka for the 1-0 CBS Arena loss, revealing afterwards that he had picked up an injury issue in training in midweek, but is hopeful that the 28-year-old will be available for next weekend’s trip to Manchester City.
“Frank had a little bit of a niggle on his hip on Thursday, so just a low level one but not good for this game but hopefully good for next week,” said the City boss, who also explained Sidiki Cherif’s absence from Saturday’s matchday squad.
The 19-year-old summer signing from Fenerbahce played 20 minutes from the bench at Plymouth on Tuesday night but is not quite up to speed in terms of his fitness.
“Cherif is getting fit,” said Lampard. “He’s not had many minutes or a proper pre-season so we need to get him fit.”
Lampard currently has a large squad with the arrival of eight new players this summer and only Jamie Allen leaving from last season’s group.
Ben Wilson, Josh Eccles and Jake Bidwell also missed out on a place on the nine man bench.
Meanwhile, Bobby Thomas’s 78th minute substitution for latest signing Ethan Pinnock is understood to be due to the centre-half cramping up.
