Alan Shearer has reminded Sunderland where they will be flying from ahead of their Europa League campaign.
The Black Cats had Newcastle United’s number last season, winning both derbies and finishing higher in the Premier League. To add insult to injury, Sunderland also secured European football for the first time in 53 years.
The least coincidental event of the year saw Sunderland draw AC Milan away in the Europa League. In doing so, the famous “Have you ever seen a Mackem in Milan?” chant was killed stone dead.

Alan Shearer teases Sunderland
Sunderland’s social media team were quick to dig out an old tweet from Shearer - dating to when Newcastle secured Champions League qualification in 2023. The Toon icon sharply fired back an “airport” dig - teasing the Black Cats about flying from Tyneside.

Alan Shearer sends Newcastle United board message
Speaking to Betfair, Shearer called upon the Toon hierarchy to add another forward to Matthias Jaissle’s ranks before the window slams shut. He said: “Against Liverpool there were some really good performances, particularly from Yoane Wissa.
“Last season was a real disappointment for Newcastle and for him personally, but he had a decent World Cup and I thought he was absolutely outstanding against Liverpool. If that's what we can expect, then that's something to look forward to.
“I also think with a couple of additions hopefully this week for Newcastle, with him back in form and keeping him fit, then who knows what can happen. Nico Gonzalez is a good signing, if they could get another forward in somehow, then I don't think that would be a bad thing either. But if they can get a couple in between now and the end of the window, that's certainly what they need.”
