Newcastle United’s backroom team has changed following Matthias Jaissle’s appointment.
Adam Bartlett has announced he has left his role as Newcastle United’s head of goalkeeping.

Bartlett is the latest coach to depart the Magpies following Matthias Jaissle’s appointment as head coach. The German succeeded Eddie Howe earlier this month and has brought in his own backroom team, including goalkeeper coach Alexander Bade.
The former Blyth Spartans and Gateshead goalkeeper was already at Newcastle as an academy coach when Howe arrived in November 2021. He was promoted to Howe’s coaching staff in January 2022 before being appointed head of goalkeeping later that year following the departure of the long-serving Simon Smith.
Bartlett initially stayed on for Jaissle’s first game in charge away to Valencia but has now joined Jason Tindall, Graeme Jones, Simon Weatherstone, Stephen Perches and Dan Hodges in those who have left.

Newcastle United head of goalkeeper announces departures
“After 7 fantastic years, I have now officially departed my role as head of goalkeeping at Newcastle United Football Club,” Bartlett wrote on LinkedIn. “Starting in a full-time capacity back in 2019, I would have never believed that I would have been entrusted by the football club to lead the senior goalkeeping department and I feel truly grateful to have been given that opportunity.
“I can't thank the coaching staff within the academy set-up enough, alongside Simon Smith, for their guidance over my initial two years in a full-time capacity, as without that support I would have never been in a position to grasp the opportunity that came my way in the January of 2022.
“The four+ years working with the senior side has brought me countless memories which I will forever cherish. From Champions League qualification on two occasions and the campaigns we experienced on the back of it, to two cup finals and bringing home the first domestic trophy to Tyneside since 1955. As a local lad it has been what dreams are made of.
“I have been unbelievably fortunate to work with a head coach and a group of staff that have showed on a daily basis the work ethic and commitment levels needed to achieve success at Premier League and continental level.
“The best part of it all though has been to work with an outstanding group of goalkeepers. That made the day to day work so special because all were not only top level professionals with ability we could only dream of, they were all fantastic people and all of which I will always consider as friends.
“I wish the club, the staff and everybody associated with Newcastle United every success for the season and beyond. I am sure there are good times ahead and I am looking forward to observing as a fan.”
Another goalkeeper coach joins Aston Villa
Another of Howe’s goalkeeper coaches, Daniel Garcia, has also left the club for Aston Villa, though he departed prior to Howe’s resignation.
Garcia, who hails from Madrid, was promoted to the senior staff in 2022 after initially joining Newcastle’s academy goalkeeping set-up in 2018 from Rayo Vallecano
“I've joined Aston Villa as Goalkeeping Assistant Coach,” Garcia confirmed on X on Sunday. “Today the season starts. Proud to be part of it. Up the Villa.”
