Manchester United boss Michael Carrick believes he has a better squad and a better team for the business done in the summer transfer window, but is hoping to strengthen further before Tuesday's deadline.
United have signed goalkeeper Karl Darlow and midfielders Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba this summer for a total outlay of £155million, but they could still add another left-back as well as finding a replacement for Joshua Zirkzee.
The Dutch forward was an unused substitute against Ipswich but is expected to leave the club before the window shuts, with Fiorentina leading the race to sign him on loan.
Carrick has a versatile attack to pick from and that group has been strengthened by the return of Marcus Rashford, but United do look short at left-back.
They have given up on attempts to sign Lewis Hall from Newcastle but could look for a short-term solution before Tuesday's 11pm deadline. Noussair Mazraoui came on to replace Luke Shaw against Ipswich, but he is a right-back by trade and is back-up for Diogo Dalot.
"It's always difficult to say, to be honest, when there's so little time left," Carrick said when asked if he expected to add to his squad.
"I think the situation that we're in, I think the business that we've managed to do, I'm pleased with. I think we're a better group, a better squad, potentially a better team.
"Adding Marcus into that feels like a new signing. So, in that respect, we're quite happy. We're always open to if there's something else to be able to add, so I wouldn't shut that down, but as it stands, we'll have to wait and see."
