**Gary O’Neil** assessed a **5-2 defeat** for **Ipswich Town** against **Manchester United**.
The _Tractor Boys_ are back in the topflight after gaining promotion under **Kieran McKenna**, and they made a strong start with a **2-1 last-gasp victory over Sunderland** on the opening matchday.
·**‘No problem. I'm not here to moan about refs’**
--------------------------------------------------
They then travelled to face a team that had lost 2-0 to **Hull City** last week and Ipswich were not afraid to test the stability of the _Red Devils_ during the first half. **Julio Enciso** forced **Senne Lammens** into a save from a 1 v 1 at a counterattack, then **Leif Davis** broke the deadlock with a well-taken strike.
But across 90 minutes, too many moments went against the guests. **Marcelino Nunez** slipped and gave up the ball to **Matheus Cunha**, who assisted **Bruno Fernandes** on the transition. **Bryan Mbeumo** hit the crossbar from a yard out at the start of the second half, then Harry Maguire put the hosts into the lead and benefitted from a technicality given that he had handled the ball in buildup.
·United pull away after the break
---------------------------------
From there, United pulled away. Cunha won a penalty that Fernandes converted, the captain claimed his **hat-trick** and then he assisted Mbeumo to give them lots of room to breathe in the closing stages.
_"Really unlucky to be 2-1 down, really unlucky - two of the most unlucky goals you will see, but then not good enough to get back into it. We got punished by a very good side._
_"To beat_ **_Manchester United_** _at_ **_Old Trafford_** _you need the moments to go in your favour and they didn't. Rules can go against you, or a deflection, there are lots of things that can happen in a game that are beyond your control._
·A complicated handball rule
----------------------------
_“It is a complicated rule - handball if it's the goal scorer but not if it takes a deflection and was heading off the target. I think that is tough for a referee._
_"But no problem. I'm not here to moan about refs. We get no points; at_ **_Old Trafford_** _a lot of people leave with no points but we leave with an understanding of where to get better._
_"We have three points from two tough games. A good start for us. It is the_ **_Premier League_**_; the lads understand there will be highs and lows. We don't want there to be too many lows but the lads are fine in there. They understand."_
