Manchester United came from behind to beat Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford and pick up their first Premier League win of the season.
Bruno Fernandes stole the headlines with a magnificent hat-trick before turning provider to set up Bryan Mbeumo brilliantly for the fifth goal.
An own goal earlier in the second half gave United the lead after Ipswich had taken a shock lead in the 29th minute.
Head coach Michael Carrick heaped praise on Fernandes after the final whistle but insisted another United star deserved just as much recognition.
He said in the post-match press conference: “Very good on his first start back.
“I understand that Bruno [Fernandes] is receiving praise, but Kobbie [Mainoo] deserves it too.
“He was immense in the middle of the park today.”
Mainoo was handed his first start of the campaign and responded by taking complete control of the midfield.
His relentless work rate and remarkable ability to glide past opponents in tight spaces once again showed why he is such a special talent.
The 21-year-old produced a stunning piece of skill to weave through the Ipswich midfield before threading a brilliant pass to Cunha, who was subsequently brought down for the penalty.
Mainoo showcased his extraordinary close control, racing past three Ipswich players before leaving a fourth defender wrong-footed with a burst of quick feet.
The 21-year-old recorded the most defensive contributions (14) and completed the most dribbles (4).
He won an impressive nine ground duels and completed 90 per cent of his passes.
United may have strengthened their midfield with Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba, but Mainoo once again showed why he remains their most exciting option in the middle of the park.
The youngster is a generational talent, and Carrick was absolutely right to praise him after such a commanding display.
