Newcastle United are in a tough position right now. They are a club that need to improve their squad before the summer transfer window slams shut a few days later.
At the same time though, one cannot overlook the fact that they already have plenty of players in their squad who might not have a future at St James’ Park.
Interestingly, one such player might be offered a route out of the club late in the summer transfer window. Will he take it or not? That remains to be seen.
Dortmund eyeing Newcastle United player
According to BILD (via Bulinews), Borussia Dortmund are weighing up a move for Nick Woltemade following a serious injury to Giannis Konstantelias.
Konstantelias has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Of course, it is never positive to see anybody get injured. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
Obviously, Borussia Dortmund will look for a replacement. Woltemade is believed to be on their radar. And financially, a loan deal would probably be the only realistic option for the Bundesliga giants at this point in time.
Now, it remains to be seen if Borussia Dortmund do end up making a serious push to sign Woltemade from Newcastle United or not, whether it be on a loan deal or permanent basis.
Why Dortmund want the struggling Newcastle striker
It is not hard to see why Borussia Dortmund might be interested in signing Woltemade. Of course, it might confuse those who have only kept up with the striker during his time in England.
After all, Woltemade scored just 11 goals across all competitions last season for Newcastle United. And he has looked completely out of sorts for a while, even having to play out of position often. He has looked like an elite talent, that is for sure.
But back in the Bundesliga, he was considered a genuine phenomenon of a talent. Players with his physical attributes rarely had the skill set that Woltemade brought to the table.
Unfortunately for Newcastle United, it simply has not worked out for him in the Premier League. So, could a move back to Germany, even if on loan, be on the horizon?
In many ways, it might be the best step for everybody involved. If Woltemade can do well on loan at Borussia Dortmund, it could help the Magpies recoup a good portion of the £69 million fee they paid to sign the striker last summer.
