Announcement imminent: Crystal Palace win race to sign Chelsea-bound Nigerian CB on loan
Premier League club Crystal Palace have won the race to sign Nigerian-eligible defender Honest Ahanor on loan from Chelsea for the 2026/2027 campaign.
The Eagles have reportedly reached an agreement with Chelsea to bring the teenage centre-back to Selhurst Park after the Blues complete an agreement with Italian club Atalanta for his permanent transfer.
Ahanor attracted Chelsea’s interest following an impressive campaign with Atalanta last season, where the teenage defender made 35 across all competitions and provided one assist.
His consistent and solid performances at the Gewiss Stadium convinced the Blues to pursue his signing, with Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that Chelsea reached a verbal agreement with Atalanta for a deal worth around £40 million.
Chelsea, however, are not planning to keep Ahanor at Stamford Bridge for the new season and instead want him to gain regular playing time in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace have moved quickly to secure his services on loan, viewing the Nigerian-eligible defender as an important addition to strengthen their defence.
With the summer transfer window nearing its close, the Nigerian-eligible defender will be hoping to complete the move and enjoy consistent playing time as he adapts to Premier League football and continues his development.
