Adrien Rabiot is ready to start his first game of the season on Sunday in Turin, against his former club Juventus no less.
After coming on as a substitute and being instrumental in the victories against Torino and Venezia, La Gazzetta dello Sport confirm that Rabiot will start against his old team, in a game that is psychologically crucial for Milan.

Ruben Amorim’s side, like Juventus, have won two games from two but with some doubts. The Old Lady will be a tough test, and the Portuguese coach intends to face it with his top players on the pitch.
Among them is Adrien, who – with two weeks of training at Milanello under his belt – will replace Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the attacking midfield. The former Marseille star will provide strength in duels, the ability to finish from outside the box, and a propensity for applying high pressure.
In a stadium he knows well, he won’t be overwhelmed by the tension of a big match. He has played many games in his career and from this perspective he will be a fundamental point of reference for the team and for those who are less familiar with the Stadium.

An added resource
The Saint-Maurice midfielder will start in the attacking midfield role, on the centre-right, and will have plenty of room to both cut inside and run deep to receive a pass from a midfielder.
He’ll be an important tactical tool: it’ll be up to him to ‘read’ the game and move in where he sees space to hurt Luciano Spalletti’s men. Against Torino, he needed just eight minutes to provide Alphadjo Cisse with the assist for Milan’s lead and ten to score the winner.
On Friday, his introduction was crucial in raising the team’s centre of gravity, which had lacked incisiveness. Against Venezia, he didn’t finish on the scoresheet, but he ran a lot and contributed to the ball-winning phase.
The Rossoneri’s four goals so far have all come when Adrien was on the pitch, and this certainly can’t be a coincidence. With him, his team-mates feel more confident, while Amorim has made him a key member of his team.

A renewal to follow?
Since signing the three-year contract Gerry Cardinale offered him, Amorim’s demands have always included the retention of both Rabiot and Mike Maignan. It’s no surprise, then, that the coach used him from the start against Juventus.
Adrien has never been on the market and is considered a key player for Milan’s future. For this reason, Amorim forcefully emphasised that he and the club are working with the player’s mother/agent to renew his contract.
With this statement in his pre-Venezia press conference, Amorim confirmed Rabiot’s broader role. Above all, he re-iterated how crucial he considers the midfielder to the team’s balance. And not just this season.
With Omari Hutchinson on the pitch, he will also use Rabiot in the double pivot, but his idea is to use him in the playmaker spot to increase the attacking threat with his long shots and runs. As happened in Turin, and could happen there again.
