Jonathan David completed his loan move to Atletico Madrid before the transfer window closed, allowing Juventus to add Nick Woltemade to their squad this summer.
David was a player that Juve spent all summer trying to move out of their squad, as the attacker had become one of the flops in the group. The Canadian joined the Bianconeri a year ago, and much was expected from him after a very fine career at Lille.
David leaves Juventus
The Bianconeri were confident they had a top player on their hands when they signed David, but the striker could not perform well under two different managers. Luciano Spalletti insisted that he had to leave to create space for other players to join.
Juve were therefore certain that they could not keep David, and he finally found a new home when Atletico showed interest. The Canadian agreed to join the Spanish side, completing his departure before the transfer window closed.
It is a loan move in which Juve will still cover part of his wages, but his departure allowed the Bianconeri to sign another attacker. David is also delighted to have joined Atletico, with the striker expressing his happiness at beginning a new chapter with the Spanish side.
David explains Atletico move
David has now spoken about his move and highlighted the ambition at his new club. The Canadian is pleased to be at Atletico and believes the objective is to compete for silverware every season.
David told reporters via Tuttojuve:
“I’m happy to be here. It’s a club with a lot of ambition. The goal every season is to win a trophy.”
His comments underline his desire to make the most of his opportunity at Atletico after his difficult spell with Juventus. While Juve will continue to cover part of his wages during the loan, his departure also created the space needed for the Bianconeri to bring Woltemade into their squad.
For Juventus, moving David on has allowed them to reshape their attacking options, while the Canadian can now focus on making an impact at Atletico. The move gives both sides an opportunity to move forward after a difficult period for the striker in Turin.
