Juventus have completed a loan move for Nick Woltemade after allowing Jonathan David to join Atletico Madrid on loan for the rest of this season.
David was not suited to Luciano Spalletti’s style, and the manager had long wanted to allow him to leave the club. Juve therefore pushed for the attacker to move to another team during this transfer window, eventually creating space for Woltemade to arrive.
Woltemade arrives at Juventus
The German joins Juventus from Newcastle United after one season in England. He was signed to replace Alexander Isak, meaning he played under considerable pressure during his time in the Premier League.
Woltemade did not perform as well in England as he had done in Germany, but there is no doubt that he remains a top player who can deliver for Juve in Turin. The Bianconeri are confident that he can rediscover his best form and become an important player for them.
The loan move was not free, with Football Italia claiming that the Bianconeri paid a loan fee of €2.8m, with bonuses of up to €500,000 and ancillary costs of €800,000. Juventus therefore made a significant financial commitment to bring the German to Turin.

Juve expect goals from Woltemade
Juve believe Woltemade is worth the effort because he should suit the way they want the team to play. The Bianconeri also expect him to score plenty of goals for them this season, having already demonstrated his ability to find the net during his time in Germany.
His spell at Newcastle did not produce the same level of performances, but Juventus believe the change of environment can help him return to his best. There should also be less pressure on him in Turin than there was in the Premier League, where so much was expected from him every time he stepped on the pitch.
Woltemade now has an opportunity to make a strong impression at Juventus and show why the Bianconeri were willing to invest in his arrival. With David leaving and the German coming in, Juve have reshaped their attacking options and will hope the move produces the goals they expect from him.
