Woltemade swapped Newcastle for Turin on deadline day, joining Juventus on a season-long loan deal
Nick Woltemade has joined Juventus
Nick Woltemade's loan move from Newcastle United to Juventus on transfer deadline day has been slammed back in his native Germany.
Woltemade joined Newcastle in a £69million club record move from Stuttgart last summer and after initially making a bright start to life on Tyneside, he has struggled badly in 2026.
The 24-year-old scored nine goals in his first three months on Tyneside but has then struggled for goals, confidence and an identity in the Magpies side since.
After questions were raised over whether he had the physical profile to play as a lone striker in Eddie Howe's 4-3-3 system, the Germany international was shifted to midfield and number 10 under the former United boss to no real success.
The Werder Bremen academy graduate was tipped to be one of the players to benefit when Matthias Jaissle succeeded Howe as the club's new head coach but after struggling to shine as a number 10 and a centre-forward in his first four weeks at the club, Woltemade fell behind Yoane Wissa, Joe Willock and Will Osula in the pecking order.

When it was confirmed Newcastle were going to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille, it felt like the right time for a clean break for all parties.
A number of clubs were interested, including Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Fiorentina but it was Juventus who secured a loan deal, without an obligation to buy, to bring the six foot six inch forward to Turin.
However, former Newcastle and Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann is not a fan of the move and believes Woltemade should have returned home to sign for Borussia Dortmund instead.
“I was surprised when I read it. I think he would have fitted in at Dortmund,” Hamann told Sky Sports in Germany.

"In Italy, Milan have been where the action has been in recent years. Juventus do not play in the Champions League. In terms of quality, though, they are a pretty good team. I would have stayed at Newcastle. I would have preferred to see him move to BVB. I don’t really like the move.”
