Matthias Jaissle has revealed he will be keeping a close eye on Nick Woltemade’s efforts at Juventus.
Newcastle United loaned striker - who signed for a club-record fee 12 months ago - to the Italian giants on deadline day. Woltemade failed to make an impact when given a chance to impress in the Carabao Cup win over West Bromwich Albion.
In truth, the 24-year-old has struggled for form and confidence in 2026. He arrived at St James’ Park with a bang - scoring four goals in five Premier League games - before a downturn in performances saw him shifted into midfield.
The experiment failed - but Woltemade now gets the chance to rekindle his spark in Serie A. Speaking to reporters, Toon boss Jaissle noted how he messaged his compatriot earlier in the day - and backed him to score goals.
‘I appreciate’ - Matthias Jaissle
“First of all, I really appreciate Nick as a player and as a person,” he said. “We always had honest conversations, and he decided to take another challenge in a top league with a top club.
We'll monitor him closely. I'm optimistic he'll shine there and score a lot of goals. He's still our player, so we'll stay in close contact.”

Jaissle also left the door open for a potential return if Woltemade impresses in Turin. When asked if letting the forward go was a difficult decision, he added: “Definitely. He's a special player with huge potential.
“It wasn't easy for him to get the minutes he deserved here, so hopefully this move suits him. I messaged him yesterday. I really hope he succeeds because he deserves it, and we'll keep a close eye on him.”
