Maurizo Mariani has been named the referee for Milan’s game against Juventus on Sunday, which feels like a good choice.
Milan are facing their biggest test of the season after wins against Torino and Venezia, taking on their major rivals Juventus away from home. Ruben Amorim may have downplayed the big-game label, but he did admit that it’s a great test for the Rossoneri.

Of course, heated games like these can often come with some controversy, either through player bust-ups on the pitch or through poor officiating. Eyes will definitely be on the referee, as such, but at least a good one has been appointed to the game.
Positive record for both teams
As confirmed by AIA a few days ago, Mariani will be the head referee for this one, which seems like a wise choice given that he’s one of the most experienced ones in the league. Just looking at Milan alone, he has officiated 27 games involving them, which is quite a lot.

The Rossoneri have 13 wins, 6 draws and 8 defeats in games that Mariani has officiated, while they have also received 8 penalties from the referee. Four red cards have been handed out to them too, consisting of two second yellows and two straight reds.
The most recent game involving Milan was the 1-1 draw against Como at San Siro, when Rafael Leao scored the equaliser. The one before that was against Genoa, also a 1-1 draw, when Leao once again scored the equaliser.
There was some controversy regarding a penalty awarded to Genoa (missed), but overall, there haven’t been any major errors by the referee in recent times.
Taking a quick look at his record with Juventus, it’s better than Milan’s with 16 wins, 5 draws and only 3 defeats. They have only been given two penalties though, which is something.
