Newcastle United reportedly considered a swap involving Nick Woltemade that would have seen them sign Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha. The Magpies had a busy end to the summer transfer window, having overseen a number of departures from their squad.
Woltemade left Newcastle to complete a season-long loan move to Juventus, in a deal which does not include an option to make the agreement permanent at any point.
The Germany international’s departure comes just one year after he completed a £69million switch to St James’ Park from Stuttgart, during which time he scored 11 goals for United.
Woltemade made his debut for Juventus over the weekend with a 15-minute cameo in a 1-1 draw with AC Milan in Serie A.

A fresh report from Sport Bild has claimed, though, that Newcastle had considered a swap deal involving Woltemade before sanctioning a loan deal with Juventus.
It has been claimed that Newcastle were willing to offer Woltemade to Dortmund in exchange for Nmecha, and were also said to be prepared to include a “multi-million euro fee” to make the deal happen.
Nmecha has been heavily linked with a move away from Dortmund for some time, but remained at Signal Iduna Park beyond the deadline, but will likely be linked with a move away yet again in the weeks and months ahead.
Manchester United have already been credited with an interest in signing Nmecha, with reports suggesting that Dortmund would demand around £86million before considering letting the midfielder leave the club.

The 25-year-old only signed a new contract with Dortmund back in March, with the fresh terms running until the summer of 2030, but there is still a chance that a departure could happen, based on the recent reports.
Newcastle were mentioned in the report by Fussball Daten that claimed Man United had joined the race to sign Nmecha, while Manchester City have also been linked with signing their former academy starlet.
Nmecha left City in the summer of 2021 to join Wolfsburg and signed for Dortmund two years later, where he has scored 13 goals across 116 appearances and earned a spot in the Germany squad for the World Cup earlier this summer.
