Michael Carrick believes Bruno Fernandes is showing exactly why he is so important to Manchester United.
The United captain had a slow start to the Premier League with a blank on the opening day against Hull City. He followed it up with a PFA Player of the Year award before scoring an emphatic hat-trick against Ipswich in their 5-2 win.
Bruno Fernandes was again instrumental in United’s midfield but couldn’t help the team secure all three points as Maitland-Niles scored a late goal to secure a draw for Everton.
Michael Carrick knows Fernandes will attract most of the attention when he produces performances, but he was keen to highlight what happens away from match day too.
“I’ve spoken an awful lot about Bruno, and I think it just shows what he can do,” Carrick said while talking to Sky Sports.
Michael Carrick full of praise for Bruno Fernandes
The United boss pointed to Fernandes’ work in training and his attitude around the squad as two of the reasons he has continued to have such an impact.
“I think how important he is for us, and the impact that he has. He’s done it over such a long period of time and since we’ve started working together again, I think he’s been nothing but positive all the way through.”
Carrick also praised the desire Fernandes shows every day.
“He’s set the example every day. He trains well, his attitude is spot-on, he’s desperate to win, he’s desperate to do well, and then he puts in performances like that.”
The manager doesn’t want the attention on Fernandes to take away from the rest of the team, either.
“Bruno gets the headlines, and I understand why. Rightly so, because the quality of his moments was pretty special at the weekend.”
