Nick Woltemade made his Juventus debut just days after joining from Newcastle United on loan.
Nick Woltemade was involved in late drama on his debut for Juventus.
The 24-year-old joined Juve on a season-long loan from Newcastle United on deadline day and was immediately included in their matchday squad for Sunday evening’s Serie A clash at home to AC Milan.
Woltemade was named on the bench before being introduced for the final 15 minutes with his new side trailing 1-0. However, it was another late substitute who struck in stoppage time, with Federico Gatti heading in Teun Koopmeiners’ free-kick to rescue a point.

Moments earlier, Woltemade had a chance to level the scores himself when the ball fell to him inside the box, but his left-footed effort sailed over the crossbar. Nevertheless, the Italian newspapers were willing to give the 6ft 7in German the benefit of the doubt on his first outing for The Old Lady.
Tuttosport handed Woltemade 6/10 and wrote: “A respectable fifteen-minute spell, spent mostly jostling for position to create space for teammates—with results decidedly more positive than those of his French strike partner.”
Woltemade also received the same mark from Corriere dello Sport, who said: “A misplaced left-footed shot, but several free kicks won.”
Why Newcastle United let Nick Woltemade leave on loan
Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle has vowed to keep a close eye on Woltemade during his time in Italy. Woltemade, as it stands, is due to return to Tyneside next summer as there is no obligation or option to buy in his loan agreement.
Woltemade only joined the Magpies last year for a club-record £64million but found himself behind the likes of Will Osula, Yoane Wissa and new £51million signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo in the pecking order.
“Yeah, a tough decision, definitely,” Jaissle said. “I really appreciate this guy as a player, for his qualities, and he showed that also in the previous weeks, since I'm here, a really special player with huge potential at a young age.
“But he decided now to make a next step, as it was also not easy here to get the minutes he usually deserves, also to get for his quality. Hopefully, the fit, how he's playing football is coming now really close to what Juve is searching, that he can shine there.
“I said that to him also, I can only keep my fingers crossed, because he deserves to be playing there and performing well. We will keep a close eye on him.”
“I really, really appreciate Nick,” Jaissle added. “As a player, for his quality on the pitch, but also I appreciate him as a human being and his quality off the pitch.
“We had always good conversations, really honest conversations, and he decided now to take another challenge in a top league as well, with a top club, and we will be monitoring him and looking and seeing him quite closely.
“I'm really curious how he's doing and I'm really optimistic that he will shine there. He will score a lot of goals there for sure, and he's still our player, so therefore we will for sure stay in close contact.”
